Career support

In Fife we recognise that the most important resource is the teacher. That is why we take our responsibilities for staff learning and development very seriously and make training accessible. We will provide opportunities for you to engage in leadership courses and programmes throughout your career progression and we enjoy strong partnership working with universities which provides opportunities for engagement in Masters level learning.

High quality CPD opportunities have been established in the key areas of literacy, numeracy and nurturing relationships. We have an established network of experienced practitioners who support colleagues through professional dialogue, classroom observations and sharing of best practice, helping our teachers adopt principles of an inclusive approach. Headteachers report a ‘real buzz’ around schools as a result of this engagement.

Fife’s vision is primarily to improve life chances for all pupils, providing encouragement and support to reach their potential. Regardless of their background, Fife is committed to ensure all learners leave school with the numeracy skills needed to meet the big wide world. As a maths teacher in Fife, you could be that one person who a pupil remembers fondly for being life changing. You have the privilege to do a job that allows you to develop and influence learners in a positive and meaningful way.

I have worked as a teacher within Fife Council for nearly 30 years and feel it provides a vibrant and progressive educational environment.  Fife’s education service has allowed me the autonomy to inspire young people and provide them with skills for learning and life.

Fife Council recognise and train all staff on Child Protection, inclusion, wellbeing and equity to support our young people at all stages of their learning whilst recognising individual needs.

Garry McKean CDT Teacher Beath High School

My name is Garry McKean and I am a CDT teacher at Beath High School, I have been doing this job for 8 years so far. It always sounds cheesy when people say it's the most rewarding job you can do, but there is definitely truth in that...

The sheer delight on the kids faces when they finish their spatula and get to take it home is worth it alone!

I am actually a former pupil of Beath so when I was offered to come back and teach here I was quite surprised... I'm not sure they know I still have a few outstanding punishment exercises due to many of the teachers in here! I've lived in Fife all my life and I know many of the parents and families in the school community which I think helps my relationships with the kids.

I am surrounded by an excellent group of people who all work together to do their best for the young people of our community and I am very proud to be a part of that.
