Penalty for giving false information
Under the provisions of Section 53(1) of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Scotland) Act, 1965, any person who knowingly gives to a district registrar, or the Registrar General, information which is false in a material particular shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable:
- on conviction on indictment, to a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both;
- on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding the prescribed sum or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or to both.
