Fife Council's commitment to providing high-quality, affordable housing continues, as tenants move into 33 brand-new council homes at the former Pitcorthie Primary School site on Aberdour Road, Dunfermline.
Built by Robertson Construction, the development comprises a mix of one and two-bedroom bungalows, including two fully wheelchair adapted properties. Additionally, a community hub house has been built to support local engagement and services.
These much-needed homes form part of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, which continues to provide vital housing options for residents, including Retirement Housing for older people. The delivery of these 33 homes has been supported by grant funding of £2.62m from the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s Spokesperson for Housing and Building Services, recently visited the site and expressed her delight with the progress made, particularly in the context of the ongoing housing emergency. She said:
“I am delighted to meet tenants moving into their new homes in Pitcorthie. In the face of a housing emergency, Fife Council remains committed to delivering much-needed council homes through our ambitious Affordable Housing Programme. Every new home provides a warmer, healthier environment that improves the wellbeing of our tenants, while also creating jobs and apprenticeships that support the construction industry and our local economy.”
New tenants, Mr and Mrs Young, who recently moved into one of the properties, shared their joy at finding a home that perfectly suits their needs. “Moving here has been life-changing for us,” said Mr and Mrs Young. “The peace and quiet is wonderful, and being closer to our family means we have the support we need. Our new home is easy to heat, the kitchen is lovely, and the bathroom is perfect. We finally feel safe and settled, and it's great to be near local amenities, including the doctors. Everything about this move has been a positive change for us.”
Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme not only provides much-needed homes but also supports the local economy by generating employment and training opportunities within the construction sector. The programme’s long-term commitment ensures that more families and individuals will benefit from secure and high-quality housing in the years to come.
