Investing in Our Communities: Local funding making a difference in Cowdenbeath area

Cllr Alex Campbell, Cowdenbeath area committee Convenor

The Cowdenbeath Area Committee has continued its commitment to supporting local communities by approving vital funding from the Local Community Planning and Anti-Poverty budgets in 2024/25. With the backing of committee members, investment of over £125K has gone towards initiatives that support families, young people, and older residents across the Cowdenbeath area.

A report presented to members at Cowdenbeath area committee recently, highlights how this funding has directly benefited residents across the area, enhancing services, supporting community groups, and addressing key local priorities.

Over the past year, funding has been allocated to a range of initiatives, including:

  • Support for Families and Young People – Funding has helped expand local youth services, providing safe spaces, activities, and mentoring support for young people. This has empowered them with new skills and opportunities while strengthening community ties.
  • Tackling Poverty and Inequality – Resources have been directed towards initiatives that support low-income families, from food and fuel support schemes to projects that promote financial wellbeing and digital inclusion.
  • Health and Wellbeing Projects – The committee has backed projects encouraging physical activity and mental wellbeing, from sports programmes to wellbeing workshops, making a positive difference to people’s lives.

Cllr Alex Campbell, Cowdenbeath Area Convenor, praised the collective efforts of council staff, local groups, and volunteers in bringing these projects to life:

“The Cowdenbeath Area Committee is committed to supporting projects that truly benefit our communities. Over the past year, we have seen fantastic work being carried out thanks to this funding, but mainly to our staff. Whether it’s helping families in need, improving community spaces, or giving young people more opportunities, the hard work and dedication from staff, along with this investment is making a real difference. I know I can speak for the area committee members, and staff, and say we are all proud to work alongside local groups and volunteers who help make the Cowdenbeath area a better place for everyone.”

The committee continues to encourage local organisations to apply for funding and collaborate on projects that will create lasting improvements for the area. By working together, the community can build on these successes and ensure that support continues to reach those who need it most.
