Fife Council supports 'Spring into Action' event

Fife Council was delighted to support the ‘Spring into Action’ event at the Fife Cycle Park this past weekend in partnership with Greener Kirkcaldy.

The event saw a fantastic turnout from the local community and captured the spirit of Fife Council’s ongoing Active Travel campaign, which is encouraging everyone to make small, sustainable changes to their daily travel habits.

Families, cycling enthusiasts, and newcomers alike took part in a range of engaging activities, including bike trials and demonstrations, guided walks and interactive workshops on sustainable travel.

The event also featured local businesses and organisations that shared valuable insights on how people can integrate active travel into their daily lives.

Councillor Altany Craik, spokesperson for finance, economy, and strategic planning, said: "Active travel is a fantastic way to improve your health, reduce carbon emissions, and make our communities more vibrant and connected. Whether it’s walking, cycling, or wheeling, choosing sustainable transport options benefits everyone in Fife.

"We’re committed to making active travel safer and more accessible for all, investing in better infrastructure, improved pathways, and initiatives that support people to make the switch. By embracing active travel, we can create cleaner air, reduce congestion, and promote healthier lifestyles.

"Even small changes—like walking to the shops or cycling to work—can make a big difference. We encourage everyone in Fife to take advantage of the opportunities available and join us in building a greener, healthier future for our region.”

Spring into Action

All in all, the event was a great opportunity for visitors to find out more about what walking, wheeling and cycling activities are happening in the local area and beyond in 2025.

A spokesperson from Greener Kirkcaldy added: “It’s fantastic to see the community embrace active travel in such a positive way.

“Events like ‘Spring into Action’ show that walking, cycling, and wheeling can be enjoyable and practical choices for everyday journeys.”
