Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025, co-ordinated by Skills Development Scotland, runs 3-7 March, and Fife Council is focusing on the advantages to be gained from an apprenticeship - for individuals, employers and the economy.
This week is a nationwide celebration of apprenticeships and it’s the perfect time for everyone to shout about the benefits work-based learning brings to all involved.
For our part, Fife Council is always keen to showcase the great things that happen when employers back talent through apprenticeships.
Many businesses and other organisations across Fife have already helped many people transform their careers through apprenticeships.
Councillor Altany Craik, Fife Council’s finance, economy and strategic planning spokesperson, said: “In these challenging times, apprentices can play a vital role in supporting businesses and the economy now and for the future. It’s never been more important to show our support for apprenticeships.
“Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025 is a time to share the value apprenticeships can bring.
“We’re committed to creating employment and training opportunities for the young people of Fife.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity, and while apprentices will be expected to work to a high standard, they will be guided and supported by excellent staff with the experience and expertise to ensure that our all apprentices receive the best training opportunities available.”
As a result of this commitment, already this year the council’s Building Services Team has created 26 Modern Apprentice Trade posts, Fleet Operations created four Modern Apprentice Trade posts and the Grounds Maintenance service also created four Modern Apprentice posts.
Indeed, we've currently got 156 apprentices working across a range of different occupations, including business and admin, horticulture, rural skills, trees and timber, automotive, plumbing and heating, construction, gas engineering, land-based engineering, digital marketing, career development, healthcare support, social services (children and young people), social services and healthcare, and youth work."
And look out for our Early Years Officer Apprenticeships which will be open for applications between 18 April and 5 May.
Apprenticeships have changed significantly over the years and the apprenticeship family has grown and now includes:
Foundation Apprenticeships – helping young people gain valuable, real-world work experience and access work-based learning while they are still at school.
Modern Apprenticeships – work-based training opportunities for new or existing employees, where individuals can work in paid jobs while working toward a qualification.
Graduate Apprenticeships – providing work-based learning opportunities up to Masters degree level for employees, combining academic knowledge with skills development to enable participants to become more effective and productive in the workplace.
For businesses backing talent, who can give someone the chance of an apprenticeship, there's more support than ever before.
Fife Council is working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the DYW (Fife) team and Fife College to showcase contributions from business, education and young people from across the region.
