Supported lodgings is a Fife Council scheme providing in-home accommodation and support to Fife’s young people 16 and over who are leaving care or facing homelessness.
Many young people leaving care would benefit from a safe, supportive and welcoming home environment as they become more independent and learn the everyday, practical skills they will need for adult life.
Anyone with a spare room can become supported lodgings providers to help these young people aged 16 to 24.
The council provides lots of support to its supported lodgings providers, including regular check-ins and visits, training, support groups, and renumeration.
Frances Hunter, supported lodging carer, says: “Being a supported lodging carer for 18 years, I find this role fulfilling. It is rewarding to see young people achieve their goals after supporting them through any difficult challenges that they may have had to overcome.”
James Ross, Fife Council Head of Children and Families and Criminal Justice, said:
“Our supported lodging providers help our young people in Fife find their feet. By providing a room for a young person, you can help them feel safe and secure as they become adults.
“We welcome anyone aged 21-80 with a stable environment, a spare room and a passion for working with or experience of living with young people to get in touch with us.
“Your patience, understanding, commitment, and insight into the challenges facing young people today can help them learn how to look after themselves to live independently.
“Please come and meet us to find out more at our drop-in information event at the Kingdom Shopping Centre next to WH Smith in Glenrothes from Monday 3 to Saturday 8 February, 10am-6pm each day."
