Dunfermline - a city built on heritage

The City of Dunfermline Area Committee has agreed to give £45,000 (from the Local Community Plan budget) to A City Built on Heritage project.

This project, inspired by historical figures like St. Margaret, Andrew Carnegie, and Sir Patrick Geddes, aims to celebrate Dunfermline’s rich history and heritage. It will use various historical sites for cultural events.

The three-year project builds on six years of successful partnerships and involves several key organisations, including the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, Fife Cultural Trust, Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, and Fife Council.

Area Convener, Cllr James Calder, said: "This project will use Dunfermline’s cultural assets to boost the economy and promote sustainability. By supporting this initiative, we’re creating accessible and inclusive programmes that support community wellbeing and empower local groups to shape the city’s heritage."

A City Built on Heritage project has a total budget of £388,000 and is seeking additional funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust. The project aims to strengthen partnerships, increase tourism, and create a lasting cultural legacy for Dunfermline, serving as a model for heritage-led regeneration.
