Visitors to Riverside Park in Glenrothes are being thanked for their ongoing support as improvements across the park continue over the coming weeks.
Fife Council is spending almost £5 million secured from the UK Government on the project, which has already seen extensive pond works carried out and a number of paths and walkways upgraded across the popular park.
Another important phase is about to begin in the week beginning September 30, when equipment in the large playpark on the skatepark side of the park is due to be removed.
This will make way for a new £1 million replacement play park with enhanced play equipment, but it will mean there will be no play equipment available on that side of the park until then.
The small playpark in the pondside area will be having some new equipment added in time for the October holidays starting, although there will be some disruption beforehand.
People are also being reminded that the Pond Car Park is due to be closed after the October school holidays for an estimated four to six weeks, while a two-week lane closure on the A911 is also planned from the week commencing October 28 to allow for the installation of a staircase.
Councillor Craig Walker, convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee, said: “This is a huge investment in Riverside Park and we appreciate people’s patience and forbearance while work is carried out.
“I’m sure people will agree that the pond looks fantastic after the work that’s gone on there, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the further improvements that are planned come to fruition.”
Work is being done across the park is being done in sections until March 2025, and members of the public are reminded to please stay outside of all working areas for their own safety, as well as that of those working there.
The planned programme of works will be weather dependent, and further updates on the project’s progress will be provided as/when necessary.
