Councillors have agreed to consider the affordability of different options for Community Use facilities in South West Fife, as part of the 2025 budget process.
Earlier this year councillors agreed on six options to be formally assessed in terms of space, facilities, pitches, pool, car parking and other considerations.
The six options are:
- Retention and refurbishment of The Wing (including pool, community facilities, grass and synthetic pitches) at the existing Inverkeithing High School.
- Construction of a new pool with community facilities at Inverkeithing High School site.
- Construction of a new stand-alone pool at the Inverkeithing High School site.
- Construction of a new pool at the replacement High School on the Fleet Grounds site.
- Construction of community facilities without a pool within Inverkeithing.
- Provision of grass and synthetic turf pitches within Inverkeithing
These options have now been fully appraised and costed but a final decision on next steps has been deferred. Councillors agreed that consideration of these options will be made as part of the budget setting process.
Cllr David Ross, Leader of Fife Council said: “We wanted to give due consideration to what Community Use facilities already exist, what new facilities will be created once the South West Fife High School is built and what facilities we would be losing when the old building closes. The options which are open to us include a range of larger ambitious projects and smaller, less costly plans. It is only sensible for us to then look at these options as part of our wider budget considerations. We can’t make decisions on such a significant financial investment without taking the whole Capital Plan into consideration.
“The options we have range from £3m to almost £30m. We can’t hide from the fact that costs will absolutely play a huge part in any decision we make and this is why we haven’t made any decisions today. It is prudent to wait and do this as part of our budget settlement. “
