Next week is World Gaelic Week and Fife Council is encouraging everyone to give Gaelic a go during a special week of events.
Fife celebrates World Gaelic Week with a range of events and activities taking place from 19th – 25th February. This year, the theme is Do Chànan Do Chothrom/ Your language Your Opportunity.
Fife Council, working with a range of partners have organised a busy schedule throughout Fife and are hoping that there is something for everyone and all language abilities, including those encountering Gaelic for the first time.
Events during Seachdain na Gàidhlig (Feb 19-25th) are all free to attend and have been designed to be accessible to those with no Gaelic at all but still be enjoyable for fluent speakers.
Events and activities taking place include:
- Monday - Carnegie Library, Dunfermline
- 10am - Conversation group
- 1:30pm - Bookbug
- 3pm Gaelic Scrabble,
- 6 - 8pm Bothan with Peter Mackay
- Wednesday
- 10am - 2pm - Comhàirle Fìobha, Fife House, Glenrothes pop-up stand
- 7 - 8pm Leslie Baptist Church, Gaelic Talk
- Thursday
- 10:30 -12pm - Lochore Gaelic Walk
- 6 - 7pm - Cupar Library Gaelic Talk
- Friday - Anstruther
- 10:30am - Bookbug Dreel Halls
- 1:15pm Gaelic Walk, Dreel Woods
- Saturday - Anstruther
- 1:30pm - Singalong Gutalong, Scottish Fisheries Museum, Anstruther
- 4pm - Gaelic working Songs talk, Dreel Halls, Anstruther
Kirsty Strachan is the council's Gaelic development officer. She commented: "We want to encourage as many people as possible to take part in this week of activities around Fife to experience, use and improve your Gaelic. There are more Gaelic speakers in the community than most people are aware of and learning a new language can be great fun for all ages."
