The much-anticipated Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) in Hill of Beath has officially opened, marking a significant milestone for the local community. The state-of-the-art facility, designed to promote active lifestyles and inclusive play, was unveiled during a special event attended by Convener of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, Councillor Alex Campbell, Cllr Darren Watt, along with members of the Community Council and children from Hill of Beath Primary School.

This £130,000 project was made possible thanks to funding from Fife Council's Cowdenbeath Area capital budget. It forms part of a larger £260,000 package that also delivered a new play park for the area. While the play park was completed earlier, the MUGA faced some delays as planning permissions were secured and essential drainage solutions put in place.

Councillor Alex Campbell, Cowdenbeath Area Convener expressed his delight at the opening, saying:
"This fantastic new facility is a great asset for Hill of Beath. It’s wonderful to see the community coming together to celebrate the opening, and I’m confident the MUGA will be enjoyed for years to come by people of all ages."

In addition to the MUGA and play park, the project also included resurfacing the car park at the nearby ex-servicemen’s club, further enhancing the amenities for the local community. Resurfacing of the car park has been rescheduled and is set to take place in spring 2025, when warmer weather conditions are more suitable.

Hill of Beath Community Council and local residents were engaged in shaping these developments through public consultations held in September 2021, helping ensure the projects met community needs and expectations.

The opening of the MUGA is the latest step in Fife Council’s commitment to improving recreational spaces and promoting health and wellbeing across the area.
