Cowdenbeath Yoscars shines a spotlight on young talent

The Cowdenbeath area came together recently to celebrate the incredible achievements of local young people at this year’s Cowdenbeath Area Yoscars event.

Over 250 young people, parents, partner organisations and local councillors gathered at Bowhill Community Centre to recognise the hard work, commitment, and contributions of the young people from across the area, honouring both individuals and youth groups that have positively impacted their communities.

The event showcased the efforts of various local clubs, from Kelty’s senior and junior youth clubs to the vibrant forums in Lochgelly and Cardenden, where groups like the Jigsaw and 7 Habits from local schools were also celebrated. Altogether, more than 250 certificates were awarded, including volunteer recognitions from the Primrose Trust and Caca Young Volunteer Awards, which highlighted the dedication of young people supporting local youth clubs.

One of the evening’s standout moments was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Gordon Anthony, a youth work hero who’s been supporting young people for an unbelievable 50 years and has left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Another highlight was the prestigious McKain Award, given to Liam Ferguson from Cardenden, recognising his exceptional contributions to the community.

Councillor Alex Campbell, Convenor for Cowdenbeath Area Committee, expressed his pride in the young attendees, saying: “The Yoscars event was truly inspiring. It’s a privilege to witness the talent and commitment our young people bring to their communities. The night celebrated each nominee's hard work, and I am proud of what they’ve achieved and look forward to seeing how they continue to make a difference.”

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for their dedication and accomplishments. The success of this year’s Yoscars is a testament to the positive role young people play across the Cowdenbeath area and Fife, building stronger, more connected communities for everyone.
