New life breathed into Touch Community Centre

Community spirit is thriving in Touch, Dunfermline.

Before the pandemic, Touch Community Centre was rarely used. But this changed during lockdown as it became a base for food provision in the area. Since the pandemic, we’ve upgraded the community pantry room and use of the centre has kept growing. Several different classes and groups now use the facility including Food for Your Future Community Pantry, Touch Community Council, and Cafe Inc during the school holidays. Food For Your Future Community Pantry contributed towards the pantry room upgrade and raised funds for the fridge and freezer equipment.

This week, the City of Dunfermline Area Committee awarded £10,700 to a new project based at Touch Community Centre. Touch Evening Pantry will help Dunfermline households unable to attend daytime foodbanks and pantries as they’re at work.

Cllr James Calder, Committee Convener said: “Many households in Dunfermline are finding it difficult to balance their growing bills with their income. This is affecting working families too! The new evening pantry at Touch Community Centre will help households reduce some of these costs, as well as distributing good food that would otherwise be going to landfill.”

Touch Evening Pantry will also offer local people a place to socialise, have something to eat and get advice on money, benefits, housing and other everyday concerns.
