Members of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee have agreed to give over £57k from the local area budget towards the cameras. This is in response to feedback from locals about community safety.

Councillor Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, welcomed the committee’s decision. He said: “Since the dome hawk system became obsolete there’s no current neighbourhood CCTV system. By helping towards the cost of the new cameras, which are self-powered and can be moved around depending on where they’re needed, we will be able to buy eight solar powered 4g flexible CCTV cameras – that’s two for each ward. Although we will own the cameras, they will be managed by Police Scotland in known hotspots across the four Kirkcaldy area wards to help prevent issues and gather evidence if needed.

“Ultimately, we want to improve community safety and believe that these cameras will help us do this.”
