Praise for South and West Fife summer holiday programme

Council staff and community groups have been praised by the South and West Fife Area Committee for the high quality and well-planned holiday programme offered to young people, children and families during this year’s school summer holidays.

Despite significant challenges, and while this was the first summer programme post pandemic, a range of activities and support was on offer in communities across the patch.

Cllr David Barratt, Convener of the Committee said: “Community based teams worked flat out to deliver gaming cafes, den building, picnics, trips to Lochore Meadows, football sessions and family activities – to name a few. And wrap around support including adult learning opportunities, cooking courses, food provision at Café Inc and welfare support was also an important resource for families to access.

“Affordable sports camps, offered by the Community Use and Active Schools teams at The Wing in Inverkeithing High School, were popular and £1 activity sessions ran throughout the holidays too. Low-cost public swimming and targeted group swimming lessons were also very well received.”

A holiday programme working group is to be established to make sure that, going forward, all schools holiday periods give local families a range of activities and food options to access.

Cllr Barratt added: “I’d like to thank the teams and community partners that have collaborated on delivering such a successful programme of support for families across the area this year.”
