Levenmouth Area Committee met online this morning - Wednesday 11 August. Here's a summary of the decisions.

Budget Requests

Leven Town Centre Christmas Lights - £7,750 (Local Community Planning Budget)

Members have agreed a contribution towards the Christmas lights for Leven town centre:

  • £5,450 – installing and removing lights,
  • £1,800 – safety testing, and
  • £500 – equipment repairs.

Cllr Ken Caldwell said: “Leven Environment Group continue to do a great job with the Christmas lights each year and as a committee, we’re happy to support them with this contribution.

“We want people to visit and shop in our town centre and these decorations will make it both welcoming and attractive during the festive period.”

Greig Institute, Windygates - £10,000 (Area Capital Budget)

The Area Committee agreed to award £10,000 for refurbishing the Greig Institute toilets.

Cllr Ken Caldwell commented: “The Greig Institute is well used by many groups and individuals in the area. It’s already had the kitchen and windows upgraded, so refurbishing the toilets will further increase the appeal of the building and should lead to more hires.”

Street Naming

Councillors agreed to the new street name, McKay Court for the Quale Homes development on land to the east of Station Road, Leven.

McKay Court honours James Taylor Hamish McKay who served the local community as a youth leader and sports coach for over four decades. Also, he was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2020 for his services to young people and the Levenmouth community.
