Fife Trading Standards is supporting National Consumer Week Scotland (2020) which runs from Monday 16th November to Sunday 22nd November. It’s a nationwide campaign run by Trading Standards Scotland in partnership with Advice Direct Scotland. This year’s campaign theme is ‘Online Shopping and Deliveries’ and will look at key areas impacting upon Scottish consumers, namely:
- Online Shopping – Making the most of your money
- Deliveries – Avoiding being caught out by hidden delivery charges
- Delivery Delays – Consumer rights when items are late
- Problems with deliveries – Rectifying issues when online orders do not arrive or are received incorrectly
- Online Safety & Scams
- Product Safety When ordering online
- Counterfeit Goods – Spotting the fakes
The Council’s Trading Standards Team will be publishing hints and tips on their social media platforms throughout the week in relation to these key areas that consumers should consider when making online purchases. Advice Direct Scotland will also be making campaign related information available on their website at: www.consumeradvice.scot/ncw
Dawn Adamson, Service Manager, Fife Trading Standards added, “This year will see record levels of online shopping at Christmas due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Buyers must be careful when purchasing from online marketplaces and it is important for them to familiarise themselves with their legal rights. With events such as ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’ just around the corner I would encourage members of the public to do exactly that.”
