Let's talk more about Fife's passenger transport

The council spends £22 million each year subsidising different types of transport to help all sorts of people get from A to B. Councillors and officers are calling on residents to help think up new concepts, challenge traditional thinking, and have an open debate about what we all want and expect from modern transport solutions for Fife.

Council Co-leader, David Ross said: "It’s not about specific proposals at this stage – it’s about having meaningful conversations about what the ideal transport services would look like.

"Some areas of Fife are better served than others with public transport. Some areas, particularly rural areas, face disadvantages, which means some people find it much more difficult to access services if they don't drive a car. Should the council’s transport strategy try to address these disadvantages, and how best could this be done?

"Passenger transport covers a lot of services and over the coming weeks we're going to explore each of these areas in more depth and encourage people to really think about what society will need in the future. You might not think it affects you - but at some point in your life it's almost inevitable that you or a family member will use one of the transport services the council's paying for."

Co-leader David Alexander said: "People have to travel to get to work and education; to access public services and health services; to reach leisure facilities and visit family and friends. Are all these needs taken into account by current passenger transport services? Could our services be shaped more around these needs?

"This is a glorious opportunity for everyone in Fife to help plan a modern set of services that meet the needs of as many people as possible with the money we have to invest. It's the people who live in communities and use services that know the most about what works well and what might be missing. The more residents that get involved, the better the outcomes will be for local people."
