Stage status: Preliminary design/consultation
The Fife Cycle Park provides a safe off-road environment for various cycling activities, especially cycle sport. Regular youth training sessions are held for local cyclists, supervised by qualified coaches. Lochore Meadows is a popular destination for cyclists and walkers and includes a new dedicated mountain bike trail and skills facility, as well as many informal paths for walking, cycling or horse riding.
Unfortunately, the shared pedestrian/cycle track on the B920 is narrow and not easy to be used by groups of riders travelling between the two venues. It is proposed to widen the existing footway on the east side of the B920, to provide a high quality shared footway/ cycle track, built to a modern standard.
- Timeline: The construction works will begin late in 2023, taking approximately four months to complete
- Distance: 700m approximately
- Approximate infrastructure investment: £250,000
- Key features:
- An off-carriageway shared pedestrian/cycle path
- a new zebra or toucan crossing on Main Road at Lochore Meadows
- links to an existing shared pedestrian/cycle path from Fife Cycle Park to Lochgelly
- other active travel routes and Core Paths exist locally
