The Forth Road Bridge can be affected by high winds from time to time. Radio bulletins, road signs and websites give details of which vehicles are restricted from crossing the bridge.
If the bridge is closed to ‘High Sided Vehicles,’ bus services to and from Halbeath P&R will operate as normal as this restriction only affects double-decker buses. Few double-deckers are used across the Forth Road Bridge and Stagecoach will ensure single-deckers are used when the ‘High Sided Vehicles’ restriction is in operation.
On the occasions the Forth Road Bridge is closed completely, all bus services will divert via the Queensferry Crossing. The stops at either side of the Forth Road Bridge will not be served during a closure.
In the very unlikely event that both the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing are closed to buses, services will operate the following :
JET Service 747 (Edinburgh Airport – Halbeath P&R)
- It will operate between Edinburgh Airport and Ratho Station Bus Stop (Newbridge) only.
- Connections can be made at Ratho Station with Megabus/Scottish Citylink/Park’s Services and Stagecoach services to Fife.
- Halbeath P&R, Ferrytoll P&R and Inverkeithing will not be served by Service 747
Megabus/Scottish Citylink/Park’s Services S20, M90, M91, G92 and M92/Ember
- It will operate from Barnton via Maybury Road (A902), Glasgow Road (A8), Ratho Station Bus Stop (Newbridge), Kincardine Bridge to Halbeath P&R and then continuing normal routes.
Stagecoach Services X52, X54, X55, X56, X58, X59, X60, X61 and AB1
- To maintain services east and north of Ferrytoll, Stagecoach services will run between Ferrytoll P&R and Edinburgh only. A shuttle service will run between Ferrytoll P&R, Halbeath P&R, and Dunfermline Bus Station to allow connections with other services.
- Additional services will operate on through services, depending on passenger demand. The stops at either side of the Forth Road Bridge will not be served.
