Apply for a MyFife card
You can apply for a MyFife card if you live in Fife. If you do not need concessionary travel benefits, you can do this through the NEC.scot website on the Basic NEC card without free bus travel option.
However, to receive concessionary travel benefits on your card you must be either:
- aged 60 or over, or will be 60 within the next two weeks
- a disabled person of any age who meets with one of the criteria as specified by Transport Scotland
- a young person aged 5-21. Visit our Young Persons Free Bus Travel for more information on the scheme for under 22’s
- a full-time volunteer up to age 25 (inclusive). For more information, visit the Young Scot website
If you're aged 60, or will be 60 within the next 2 weeks, please complete the Apply for an over 60s MyFife card online form at the bottom of this page. Your card will be despatched on or just after your birthday so this means you may not get your card in time for your 60th birthday.

Qualifying Criteria
ADP - Standard or Enhanced rate of Adult Disability Payment.
You will need your benefit award letter from Social Security Scotland (SSS). The letter must be dated within the last 18 months and confirm the length of benefit entitlement. For details on getting your award letter, please contact Social Security Scotland.
PiP - Standard or Enhanced rate of Personal Independence Payment. You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The letter must be dated within the last 18 months and confirm the length of benefit entitlement. For details on getting your award letter, please contact the DWP.
DLA - Higher or Middle rate of the Personal Care Component of Disability Living Allowance or Higher rate of the Mobility component - You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The letter must be dated within the last 18 months and confirm the length of benefit entitlement. For details on getting your award letter, please contact the DWP.
AA - Attendance Allowance or Constant Attendance Allowance - You will need your benefit award letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The letter must be dated within the last 18 months and confirm the length of benefit entitlement. For details on getting your award letter, please contact the DWP.
Care, residential home or hospital resident - You will need a letter from your residential home or hospital confirming that this is your permanent residency.
Blue Badge Holder - You will need your Blue Badge. (You can find out more about the Blue Badge scheme here.
Profoundly or Severely Deaf - We need to contact your audiologist to request a report confirming that you have bilateral hearing loss greater than or equal to 70dBHLs averaged over 1, 2 and 4KHz. Alternatively, please let us know if you are a British Sign Language (BSL) user or if you have been deaf since birth. A letter from your GP confirming this is fine too.
Registered Sight Impaired - If you are severely sight impaired/blind or sight impaired/partially sighted, we will confirm your registration with Seescape (Fife Society for the Blind).
Unable to drive on medical grounds - You will need a confirmation letter from DVLA, refusing or revoking your licence. It must be dated within the last year. We need this, along with the medical adviser's report.
Epilepsy, aged 16 or over and medically unable to drive – You need to have an NCT003 certificate completed by your hospital consultant, GP or epilepsy specialist nurse. A certificate can be downloaded and printed from the publications below. If you require a paper copy complete the online form below. (Note - if you are a first time applicant, select Apply for a new disabled MyFife card, if you’ve had a card before, select Renew a disabled MyFife card)
Mental Illness/Personality Disorder - Your condition must be recognised under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and has lasted for more than a year. You must need to travel to health or social care appointments as part of treatment activities, care or a rehabilitation programme. Your ability to travel must also be impaired. You need to have an NCT002 certificate completed by the health care professional treating your mental health condition. A certificate can be downloaded and printed from the publications below. If you require a paper copy complete the online form below. (Note - if you are a first time applicant, select Apply for a new disabled MyFife card, if you’ve had a card before, select Renew a disabled MyFife card)
Learning Disability and need to travel to see a support worker or get to appointments or activities - You need to have an NCT002a certificate completed by the professional person who supports you. A certificate can be downloaded and printed from the publications below. If you require a paper copy complete the online form below. (Note - if you are a first time applicant, select Apply for a new disabled MyFife card, if you’ve had a card before, select Renew a disabled MyFife card). Although you will apply using the Fife Council procedures, you might find some of the information in this Enable booklet useful.
Terminal Illness - You either need:
- your award notice that shows you receive Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Personal Independence Payment (PiP), Higher or Middle rate of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), or Attendance Allowance (AA) or
- a BASRiS form, DS1500 report, hospice admittance letter or confirmation that you are registered on a Scottish Hospice Register.
Progressive Degenerative Condition - Conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, that impede your mobility, may entitle you to free bus travel. Ask your hospital consultant or other specialist medical professional responsible for providing any treatment and support to provide a confirmation letter. This needs to say that your diagnosed health condition is considered ‘progressive degenerative' and that it severely impedes your mobility and ability to carry out day-to-day activities. Any letter from a medical professional must clearly confirm these qualifying criteria otherwise it cannot be accepted.
Limb Loss - If you have lost one or both legs, both arms or an arm and a leg, you are entitled to free bus travel. Request a letter from your prosthetic clinic/centre, physiotherapist or rehabilitation centre for your application.

War Pension Mobility Supplement - You will need your award letter from Veterans UK or Ministry of Defence.
Back To TopAll Young People aged 5-21 who live in Scotland can now apply to access free bus travel under the Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel Scheme. This is where you can find out more about the scheme and apply. (Children under 5 already travel free).
However, the exceptions to this are where your child may be eligible for the companion element (+1) on their card and you wish to apply for this.
Child Under 5 (+1)
If the child is under 5 and meets with one of the qualifying criteria, they can have (+1) on their card
- Middle or High Care Component of Child Disability Payment (CDP)
- Middle or High rate of the Care element of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Registered Severely Sight Impaired
To apply, you should email the following documents to concessionary.travel@fife.gov.uk
- a copy of the CDP or DLA award letter or confirmation of Severe Sight Impairment/VYNCIP registration
- copy of birth certificate or passport
- passport style photograph of the child
The information will be recorded, and a card sent out.
Child age 5 – 11 (+1)
If the child is age 5 - 11 and meets with one of the qualifying criteria, they can have a (+1) on their card
- Higher or Middle rate of the Personal Care Component of Child Disability Payment (CDP)
- Higher or Middle rate of the Personal Care Component of Disability Living Allowance of Disability Living (DLA)
- Registered Severely Sight Impaired
To apply, you should email the following documents to concessionary.travel@fife.gov.uk
- a copy of the CDP or DLA award letter or confirmation of Severe Sight Impairment/VYNCIP registration
- copy of birth certificate or passport
- passport style photograph of the child
The information will be recorded, and a card sent out.
Child aged 12 and over (+1)
If the child is aged 12 or over and meets with one of the qualifying criteria they can have a (+1) on their card. You should complete the Apply for a New Disabled MyFife Card via the online form below.
- Higher or Middle rate of the Personal Care Component of (CDP)
- Higher or Middle rate of the Personal Care Component of (DLA)
- Registered Severely Sight Impaired
If you are unable to apply online then you should email the following documents to concessionary.travel@fife.gov.uk
- a copy of the CDP or DLA award letter or confirmation of Severe Sight Impairment/VYNCIP registration
- copy of birth certificate or passport

Back To TopIf your MyFife card has been lost, stolen or if it is faulty, you can order a replacement by completing the Request a replacement card/Make changes to your MyFife card online form below.
If you have difficulty completing the online form, you should phone 03451 55 00 66 to request a replacement.
We will put a stop on the card from the date and time we receive your request so that you are not liable for any misuse should it fall into the wrong hands. We will then issue you with a replacement which you should receive within 7 working days.
Back To TopYou need to look at your card and check the symbol in the bottom right-hand corner. This determines whether it will be renewed automatically or if you'll get a letter telling you how to renew. Please see below which category applies to you:
- If you're aged 60 or over and have a MyFife card with a "C" symbol or if you’re sight impaired and your card shows a “eye" symbol, your card will be automatically renewed
- If you have a MyFife card with a "C+1" symbol or if you’re under 60 and have a MyFife card with a “C” symbol, you'll receive a letter reminding you that your card is due to expire and encouraging you to renew online. You don't have to wait on your letter, you can do this by completing the Renew a disabled MyFife card online form below.

If you have a “+1” symbol on your card then you are entitled to:
- A companion travelling free of charge on the same bus journey as yourself. This applies throughout Scotland.
- A companion travelling with you for half fare on rail journeys between any two Fife train stations during off peak times.
- Carers go Free scheme. Your companion can accompany you free of change when using most Fife Sports and Leisure and ONFife facilities.
