Street Naming and Numbering Privacy Notice

Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.

Fife Council uses the information to process your application for Street Naming and Numbering.

Under Section 97 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (as amended), the Council is the responsible authority for the naming of streets, and numbering of properties.

The personal information we gather includes your name, address and contact details.

Your personal data will be shared with Fife Council's Finance Service in order to process invoicing for the Street Naming and Numbering application. The information may also be shared with Fife Council's Planning and Building Standards Service to confirm details of your planning and building warrant where appropriate. The address details of every property in Fife are shared with a number of stakeholders. The address dataset is provided separate from any other personal information collected through the Street Naming and Numbering process but includes Fife Council's Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) and the location coordinates of the property. The information is passed to a large number of Fife Council Services and to National stakeholders such as Royal Mail, Emergency Services and the One Scotland Gazetteer.

We receive your contact information from our online Street Naming and Numbering request form, the information provided with your planning or building warrant application or Fife Council services who receive your address related enquiry (electoral register, Fife Assessors, contact centre etc.).

Under Section 97 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (as amended), the Council is the responsible authority for the naming of streets, and numbering of properties. In order to process address enquiries and respond to confirm official addresses we require personal contact details.

The Council will not keep your information for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept. The Council has a retention schedule which sets out how long we hold different types of information. This can be found in our Privacy Policy.

Further information on how your information is used and why can be found at fife.gov.uk/privacy. The Council's Data Protection Officer can be contacted at: dataprotection@fife.gov.uk.
