Fife Council is responsible for many different aspects of caring for our historic built and natural environments. Including:
- offering information and advice on Fife's built heritage including listed buildings, conservation areas, archaeology, and scheduled monuments
- promoting the protection and management of wildlife, habitats, and landscape
- keeping Rights of Way open and free from obstruction
- protecting trees
- provide information for Fife for Historic Environment Scotland's national Buildings at Risk Register
- managing development proposals affecting conservation areas and listed buildings
- obtaining grant funding and managing schemes for the repair and restoration of historic buildings, streets, and spaces
- getting involved in projects to improve the environment
- promoting high-quality design for new development and alterations to existing buildings
- working closely with government agencies who are responsible for conservation - Historic Environment Scotland for listed buildings, conservation areas, and scheduled monuments - and Scottish Natural Heritage for nature conservation and Fife’s landscape
