Lock-ups
Lock-ups are fixed existing structures, constructed of concrete panels, on designated sites. Lock-ups cost £19.48 a fortnight (this charge is subject to VAT if the tenant of the lock-up does not rent their home from Fife Council).
Garage sites
A garage site is where you lease the land on a designated site (approx. £55-£80 per annum) and you place your own timber garage to our specification on your designated plot.
If you're leasing a garage plot, you need to get planning permission before installing it. You can do this via the e-planning portal - Getting Started on ePlanning Scotland
The cost of a new planning application is £300. Applicants will also be expected to provide 'to scale' professional drawings as part of the planning application. This will mean a small additional cost. The specification drawing provided at sign up can also be submitted as part of the application.
Planning Aid Scotland offer free, impartial planning advice via their website.
More information is available from the following links, including details of accredited suppliers of the plans required:
If your intended garage is over 30 sqm, which is roughly the size of a large double garage, it will also require a building warrant. This will cost you £150.
If you decide you no longer wish to rent the garage site, you will need to remove the garage and return the land to us in the condition you received it. If you do not, you will be re-charged the cost of this.
Things to consider
- Applications will not be considered for a lock-up or garage site if you have any outstanding accounts with us (for example rent, council tax etc)
- Applications will not be considered if you are under sixteen years of age
- You are not permitted to carry out any business or trade of any description in or from the lock-up or garage site
- You are not permitted to store petrol, oil or any other flammable or explosive material in or around the lock-up or garage site
For anyone looking for information on lock-ups or garages, please scroll on the map to find locations. The Lock-ups and Garages Map below currently has a technical fault within the system. This means the status of lock-ups shown may not be a true reflection of availability.
You can use the link to apply for a lock-up at the bottom of the page to fill in an application, and someone from Fife Council will contact you to discuss this. Alternatively, you can enquire at your local Customer Service Centre.
No, we will not accept an application even if you have an agreement in place. You will need to clear all outstanding monies before you apply.
Back To TopNo, we do not allow arrears to build up on lock-ups. This means if you miss a payment, you will immediately receive a warning letter. You will be given three arrears letters. The third one is a final notice to quit, stating that if balance not cleared, tenancy will be terminated and locks will be changed.

If there are no available lock-ups in the area you are looking for, you will be added to the waiting list for that area.

We would only allow extended family or neighbours to take it over if they follow the correct process of applying and there is no waiting list for this area.
