Digital learning and teaching are critical for our pupils and schools. Our Transforming Learning in Fife strategy is set to equip students and their teachers with the devices and skills needed to support learning and promote equality across our 132 primary schools, 18 high schools and 5 special schools.
As part of this, all pupils from P6 to S6 will receive a digital device to help them learn, innovate, create and prepare for the future. This will transform learning for over 30,000 young people across Fife.
How does this benefits pupils?
- Learning anytime, anywhere
Pupils from P6 to S6 can access learning materials in school, at home or on the go.
- Engagement through technology
Learning will be more engaging, creative, and accessible.
- Personalised learning for all
Built-in accessibility features cater to diverse learning needs, making it easier for pupils to learn in ways that suit them.
- Preparing for the digital future
Teachers and pupils will gain essential digital skills to use technology effectively and to thrive in today’s tech-driven society.
- Supporting teachers
Digital skills streamline lesson delivery and provide digital tools for assessment, allowing more time for personalised student support.
The Transforming Learning vision is for learning that is:
- Connected: Easy access to learning for pupils, teachers and parents.
- Consistent: Equal access to devices from P6 to S6, promoting fairness and opportunity.
- Creative: Unlocking innovation and enhancing teacher feedback and support.
- Confident: Preparing pupils for learning, life, and future jobs, building their confidence and preparing them for future challenges.
The digital device roll-out will begin from May 2025, starting with teachers. This will be followed by a phased distribution to pupils from August 2025. By the end of the 2025/26 academic year, we aim to distribute over 35,000 devices across our schools.
We are also exploring a learning platform to support learning at home and in school, from nursery though to S6.
By providing a device that goes home with the child, families will also be digitally connected to their child's learning, improving engagement and involvement.
This page will be updated and further communication with schools, young people, their parents/carers will be provided in the lead up to delivery.
Developing digital technologies and skills is a vital part of a broad general education, preparing learners for the world of work and life. Our Transforming Learning in Fife strategy is just one of the initiatives designed to promote digital learning and literacy in our schools.
