The wishes of the late David Smellom Fernie are administered by Fife Council through the Fife Educational Trust which enables funds to be distributed for the benefit of pupils at schools serving Star and the children of inhabitants or natives of Star undergoing primary, secondary, further or higher education or training.
The Council, in each financial year, calculates the sum that is available to be distributed by the Trust. Assistance can be given towards costs or expenses which benefits those described above, including:
- Educational Excursions
- Equipment for Schools/Organisations/Individuals
- Sports
- Visual Arts
- Education in Music
- Promotion of Drama
- Residential Homes
- Educational Experiments
