Lochgelly South Primary School

Front of school

During initial feasibility works for a new ancillary nursery facility within the school grounds, discovery of disused shallow mine workings resulted in major remedial ground consolidation works being required to the school grounds to secure the long-term future of the school. This work involved setting up a grouting rig within the school building to fully access the mining seam, and the first time this has been achieved within the UK.

This work meant that the school had to decant to another local Primary School for the duration of one academic year.  This allowed for the grouting work, full school refurbishment as well as delivering a new nursery facility and the creation of new school parking facility.  The project included the conversion of the existing heating system to Air Source heat pumps as part of our ongoing Net Zero program.

This project was delivered in partnership with Building Services, supported by local contractors and Property Services provided detailed design plans and client support services.

The Lochgelly South PS Improvement Programme 2024 slideshow contains more photos of the work as it was carried out.
