The law restricts the sale of certain products and services to underage people. If you sell age-restricted products to a person under the minimum legal age, you may commit an offence under the relevant law.
Trading Standards enforces the law on:
- tobacco
- tobacco products
- nicotine vapour products (E-cigarettes and vaping devices)
- butane gas lighter refills
- fireworks
- spray paints
- DVDs and computer games
- sunbed hire
We investigate illegal sales of age-restricted products. This can be reported to us through our partners at Advice Direct Scotland.
Enforcement
We carry out test purchasing projects, recruiting young volunteers to attempt to buy age-restricted products. If you are 15 or 16 years old, and your parent or carer would be happy for you to get involved with this, please contact us for further information by email at trading.standards@fife.gov.uk.
