Is the cost of living crisis affecting you?
Make sure you’re getting the help you're entitled to.
Visit our siteWe provide access to free period products with funding from the Scottish Government.
Why are we providing products for free?
Period products can be expensive. We know the financial pressures many households are facing, and families shouldn’t have to worry about affording period products.
The Scottish Government has introduced new legislation - the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021. The Act requires local authorities to ensure period products can be easily obtained free of charge.
Products are free to anyone regardless of income. We want women and girls to have access to free products in a dignified way and we want to reduce the stigma surrounding periods by raising awareness of the range of products available, promoting menstruation as an important area of health and wellbeing and tackling period poverty, whilst respecting individual dignity.
Where can I get free period products?
Period products are available in our public buildings and schools. We hope having products in a range of places throughout Fife and online makes it even easier for you to access the products you need.
Anyone is welcome to take the products they need, even if you aren’t picking up products for yourself.
This is a free service for anyone living in, working in or visiting Fife.
Products are available at a number of locations throughout Scotland.
The Scottish Government, working with Hey Girls, have produced an app called PickUpMyPeriod, so anyone can find free products in Scotland. The app is available for download on Android and Apple devices. You can also request free period packs online from Hey Girls.

Period products are currently available from Sexual Health Clinics, Family Nurse Partnerships and Health Visitors. If you are using any of these services, know that you can get products if you need them.
Products are also sometimes available at community food projects, such as food banks, larders and pantries. If you’re struggling financially and need help with food as well as period products, check out our food map and find your nearest support.
200,000 tonnes of menstrual waste ends up in landfill each year in the UK, so why not try a reusable product?
These products are also available at locations throughout Fife.
Not only are they a great way of helping the environment, but they can save you money too. One menstrual cup can last 10 years.
If you’re unsure about switching to one of these products, here are some resources with a bit more information about them.
As part of the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021, the Council is legally required to:
- make products reasonably easy to obtain in both communities and school settings
- respect the dignity of those obtaining the products
- offer a reasonable choice of different types of period products
In addition to this, the Council must produce a Statement on Exercise of Functions to outline how we will meet the above duties and take forward this initiative. The Statement on Exercise of Functions will be reviewed and updated as necessary.
We know there is still work to be done to ensure there are more places where products are free and available, that’s why we are developing an Action Plan to expand our provision to more places across Fife and to ensure provision is dignified and meets your individual needs.
