John Fergus School is lucky enough to be in a very central position near the town centre and all the local amenities. The school premises are all on one level with ramped access from all rooms to securely fenced play areas, and from the front door to a parking and drop-off area.

Within the building the school has four large sunny classrooms with additional areas to offer quiet spaces for individual activities, a gym/dining hall and a library area. We have a sensory room where we have a wide range of resources that encourage exploration and learning through the senses following individual sensory programmes. Our soft play room is where pupils can explore their physical world safely. We also have a small kitchen and a laundry where pupils can develop Skills for Learning, Life and Work and senior pupils can use to complete SQA National 1 Qualifications.

We have extensive school grounds which include a range of play equipment, consisting of swings, slide, a witches hat, a trim trail and a wheelchair swing. There is soft matting under the equipment and there is an extensive grass and garden area that include a sensory garden and gazebo. There is outdoor storage for a wide selection of outdoor play equipment and two areas of soft landing for the use of climbing equipment, bicycles and our outdoor gym equipment.

Daily Timetable

The school day starts at 9.00am for pupils and finishes at 3.00pm.

There are 3 main teaching sessions in the day, interspersed with snack and lunch. Break times and lunch times are equally important learning times when pupils follow individual targets in Health & Wellbeing.

There is always someone at school from 8.30-4.00pm each day if there is a need for you to contact the school.

School Uniform

The nature of our pupils' needs mean they may not tolerate school uniform, so there is not a requirement to wear it. However, for others it is an important cue for school, so we have a school uniform, which can be purchased online from BE Schoolwear if you wish, www.beschoolwear.co.uk. There is no set colour choice, again, to meet the needs of our individual pupils.
