Dear Parent/Carer
Welcome to Hyndhead School. We are located in a quiet residential area of Buckhaven, in the Levenmouth area of Fife and serve the Levenmouth Academy cluster and the wider Levenmouth area. We currently have some learners travelling from Central Fife and North East Fife. We are a small stand-alone school offering specialist education for learners with complex Additional Support Needs. Our age range is 3 -18 years. The school role is currently 27, with an age range of 5 -18. Our high staff-to-pupil ratio helps to ensure the education and care needs of all learners are appropriately addressed.
We work effectively in partnership with you and with staff from many different partner agencies. A Pupil Support Nurse from the Community Paediatric Nursing team is based within the school to help address health and care needs. Hyndhead offers learners with complex additional support needs a well-planned and personalised curriculum set within Curriculum for Excellence. In consultation with parents and partner agencies, individualised learning targets are set for all learners across the curriculum areas.
We have good inclusive community links to support the curriculum in real-life contexts. These include Methil and Buckhaven Libraries, Clear Community Garden and Local Heritage Trail, Sainsbury’s Supermarket and local shops, Salvation Army Hall and Buckhaven Community Centre, Toll Park, Blacketyside Farm, Silverburn Park and Levenmouth Swimming Pool. We have our own mini-bus which allows us to venture further out into the community and take part in events and outdoor activities. Denbeath and Buckhaven Primary Schools and Levenmouth Academy are close by. Hyndhead pupils can apply to access the Out of School Club which runs from Rosslyn School in Kirkcaldy.
We are committed to continuous improvement and are always pleased to receive ideas and suggestions that will enhance our provision. This booklet provides a short introduction to the school. For further information or to arrange a visit to the school please telephone the school on 01592 583480.
Yours sincerely
Ronnie Ross
