The West Fife Community Support Service is a flexible, community-based service, which encourages and supports people with a learning disability to make decisions about the range of opportunities they want to access in their community.

We also provide practical support and assistance to help each individiual's choices to become a reality.

Inclusion

At the heart of our work is our strong belief in inclusion – the hope that communities will learn to include everyone. Communities can become healthier, stronger and better if they accept what everyone has to offer.

Social exclusion is both damaging and detrimental to the community as a whole.

Support is individually tailored to meet each person's need. Some people need more support than others and differing degrees of support are needed at different times. We will sit down with each person and their carer and look at what they want to do. We will then look at the most appropriate way of achieving their dreams.

We also aim to provide opportunities for employment, personal expression and skills development.

If a person has complex or profound care needs we will try to help. Some of our bases now include personal care facilities, creating better disabled toilet access that are also family rooms, so everyone can benefit.

Opportunities

We recognise that each person is unique and has their own gifts and strengths; we aim to offer opportunities to develop these within their local community.

This could include:

  • sports,
  • arts,
  • drama,
  • leisure activities; or
  • employment.
