Star Primary School

Our school vision has been created in consultation with the whole school community. At Star Primary School we provide a friendly, supportive and inclusive environment where everyone shows respect for themselves and each other. Our pupils take responsibility for their learning and work together to reach their goals.

What makes us unique?

Star PS is a small school in a rural setting, which provides opportunities for outdoor learning.  We have strong links with the community and wider agencies to meet the needs of every child. Our nurturing and friendly ethos means that we work together across the whole school. Staff know the children well and can cater for individual needs and interests.

What drives us?

Growth mindsets which foster a resilient approach to learning. Pupils are encouraged to 'have a go' and mistakes are seen as opportunities for further learning and personal growth.  Pupil and parent voice is actively sought and informs our next steps in the continuous cycle of improvement. Opportunities to celebrate achievement and share our wider experiences are woven into our weekly activities.

Star School has an important place in the community. We invite a wide range of local people and organisations into school to support us in pupils learning. These include St Andrews University, Fife College, local businesses as well as colleagues from

Auchmuty High School. All of these links encourage and promote positive aspirations for our pupils.

We make regular visits out into the local community, visiting the library and swimming pool.

Star School was built early in the 19th century. Throughout the years the school has been
extended and adapted to meet the requirements of modern teaching. The main building has
two classrooms. At present, Primaries 1-3 are taught in an open plan classroom and
Primaries 4-7 are together in a traditional style classroom.

In 1990 a dining hut and kitchen was sited to the rear of the main building. This hut is also
used as a multipurpose area for drama, music and assemblies as well as a variety of practical
activities.

The local Village Hall is also used for school activities e.g. PE, drama productions, school services

Daily Timetable

• Morning: 9am - 12.30pm
• Lunch: 12.30pm – 1.15pm
• Afternoon: 1.15pm – 3.00pm
• Interval: 10.45am – 11.00am

School Uniform

Our school uniform consists of either grey or black skirt/trousers, a white or red shirt/polo-shirt and a
red sweatshirt.

Most supermarkets and clothes shops stock school uniform in these colours please do not feel you need to buy the badged items.

For PE children will need:

• Change of shoes
• Change of socks
• Shorts/jogging bottoms
• T-shirt

If older children wish to bring anti-perspirant to school, please ensure that this is a 'roll-on' as
aerosol sprays can aggravate asthma in some pupils.

Class teachers will inform you of gym days although you may wish to leave gym kit in school all term and take this home for washing in the holidays - this allows us to take advantage of good weather for outdoor gym sessions.
