These are not merely words but values and beliefs that underpin our work at Markinch
Primary School & Nursery. We want each child to have a dream, aspiring to leave school
with the skills, knowledge and experience that sets each one on the path to the realisation of
that dream. However, we know a dream is never realised if the individual does not believe
that it can come true and so we aim to inspire belief and confidence in every child, so that
each one believes that they can achieve great things. The last word sums up our drive for
each pupil to achieve the best outcomes possible; that means not only through excellent
academic achievements but in every pupil’s day-to-day work, in all their taught subjects and
in after-school, extra-curricular activities and wider achievements.

Markinch Primary School & Nursery is a true community where staff, pupils and parents work
together for the benefits of the children within our community. We have always been known
as a school that cares passionately for our pupils; however, we also recognise that caring
means challenging our pupils to be the best they can be as often as they can be.

Markinch Primary School is a listed building which was built in 1953. The accommodation
comprises 12 classrooms on two floors, a large assembly hall which also serves as the
dining hall. There is a multi-media room, Support for Learning base, a music room and a
resource room. We have 2 Nursery playrooms catering for 64 x 3/4-year-olds.

We have an enclosed playground to the rear of the building which has a small trim trail and
seating area for the children to use. Pupils have access to nearby John Dixon Park which we
use on a regular basis.

Accessibility

All main entrances to the school have wheelchair access. The School and Nursery both
have disabled toilet facilities for children and adults."

Morning: P1-7 9.00 am – 12.35 pm
Afternoon: P1-7 1.20 pm – 3.00 pm
Interval: 10.40 am - 10.55 am

Nursery Timetable

Session: 9.00 am – 3.00 pm

School Uniform

To help the children identify with the school they are encouraged to wear the maroon school
sweatshirt, a white polo shirt and grey or black skirts/trousers. These can be purchased from
BE Schoolwear, Kirkcaldy.

A school tie is also available and we do encourage pupils to wear this. We keep a small stock
of ties at the school office. Primary 7 pupils have a prefect tie which helps identify them as
senior pupils in the school.
