At Kirkcaldy West our over-arching vision is to equip each child with the skills necessary to be an active member of a 21st century global community. In P6 children can train as Play Leaders and support others in the playground organising and leading different games.

At P7 children have increased opportunities for additional responsibilities with various monitoring duties. We also have trained peer mediators who help support children to work through any playground difficulties using a restorative approach.

Children’s achievements, whether they are in learning or in the wider sense, are shared at regular departmental assemblies.

We work closely with partner agencies to support all our children’s needs to ensure there are no barriers to their learning.

Kirkcaldy West is over 100 years old and is a single-storey, stone-built, listed building. Over the years the building has been modernised and sympathetically extended, with all available space well used.

The school has a large and mixed catchment area. As the school roll has grown, hutted accommodation has been added. Renovations took place in 2000 to accommodate the intake of three year-olds and subsequent need for extra space, however the nursery is situated within the heart of the main building.

The school is situated within a built-up, well-established residential area of Kirkcaldy and in common with other establishments of this age, has no playing fields or grass areas available. However, we do make use of the local environment where possible.

• Afternoon Session ELC Nursery 1.20pm to 6.00pm
• Morning Session (P1-P7) 9.00 am to 12.35pm
• Afternoon Session (P1-P7) 1.25pm to 3.05 pm
• Morning Interval 10.25 am to 10.55am  (Staggered Breaks)

The school expects all children to wear school uniform and most do. We firmly believe that the wearing of school uniform has a positive effect on children's attitude and behaviour. It helps us promote our identity and community at Kirkcaldy West PS.
