We think of ourselves as a happy, achieving, ambitious school and visitors to the school have frequently remarked upon the positive and friendly atmosphere.

Our Rights Respecting Schools background heavily influences our ethos. Respect is a key concept between staff, parents, pupils and visitors. Our values are drawn from the values on the Scottish mace, from the United Nations Rights Of A Child and finally we have also adopted the Olympic values of excellence, determination, friendship,courage, equality and respect through our recent involvement in the Inspire/Aspire programme. Pupil voice constitutes an important part of school life, and every child is provided with regular opportunities to make suggestions about changes within the school.

We are an educationally focused establishment, and we encourage parents to play as active a role as possible in their child's education. Home learning tasks play an important role in teaching our pupils to become independent learners.

We promote our Scottish heritage through a cross curricular project based around a Scottish theme during one academic term, usually Term 3. Pupils participate in a Burns competition, with winners at each stage progressing to the Fife Burns Competition.

We are proud to have links with Henry Henderson Institute in Malawi and have recently sent material to Blantyre, Malawi for display with material from our partner school.

Elie Primary School enjoys excellent community relationships, particularly with the local Sports Club who kindly allow the school access to tennis and golf facilities during the summer months.

Elie Primary School serves the villages of Elie, Earlsferry and Kilconquhar and the surrounding rural area. The original building dating from the 1880s still forms a substantial part of the school, with classrooms being housed in more recent extensions. The original architecture is of great interest and despite its age provides a warm and bright learning environment for our pupils. The original building is made of sand stone, but the extensions are of brick construction. There are three classrooms in total, one of which functions as a multi-purpose room. We have an old and beautiful central hall which is used for lunches, P.E. during winter time and whole school events such as assemblies. All rooms are fitted with Wi-Fi and we enjoy great flexibility in using our laptops throughout the whole school. The grounds are both extensive and attractive and comprise both tarmac and grass areas. We have an exciting play area to the rear of the school, commonly known as the "Grassie", comprising a set aside wildlife area and wooden activity equipment, chosen by the Pupil Council. We also have a full-sized football pitch which we use for athletics and for the annual Sports Day. Our most recent addition is a polytunnel, kindly donated by Elmwood College which will greatly expand our potential next session in terms of studying plant growth. School Uniform

Pupils in all Fife schools have a dress code. At Elie Primary School, we actively encourage the wearing of school uniform, and this is worn by almost all of our pupils. The uniform consists of a white polo shirt embossed with the Elie Primary School logo and a red sweatshirt again with school logo - worn with smart school trousers or skirt. School shoes should also be worn. We believe that wearing school uniform has many advantages, including the promotion of a cohesive school identity and a sense of belonging to a purposeful and focussed community. It also engenders a positive impression of the school within the local community and within the Cluster. School uniform re-inforces life skills by heightening awareness of the need to dress appropriately to suit the occasion. It also engenders equality through minimising expensive brand products within the school setting. We have recently introduced attractive red fleeces into our range, complete with our logo and this is proving popular with parents. P.E. kit is compulsory on account of Health and Safety considerations and pupils should come equipped with gym shoes for indoor use, shorts and tee-shirt. Joggers are worn for outdoor activities. Please note that all jewellery must be removed, including earrings, before taking part in P.E. activities.
