Mission Statement

Dunnikier Primary and Nursery School, working together in partnership with parents, other agencies and its community, will provide a safe, caring, stimulating and supportive environment where all children are equal and valued and are encouraged to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. We will meet challenges positively, with confidence and determination in order that learners achieve and develop into independent and informed members of the community, with an understanding of environmental and cultural issues, fostering respect for themselves and others. We will value and empower all staff to deliver high quality learning opportunities within an ethos of continuing professional development.

School Values

Pupils, parents and staff agreed 5 main values which underpin all the teaching and learning that takes place in Dunnikier. We will conduct our business with, and to continually develop, Respect, Responsibility and  Confidence, through Challenge and Fun.

School and Nursery Aims

To promote a climate of mutual respect, working together with all parents/carers, partners, other agencies and the wider community to meet the needs of all individuals. To provide a safe, caring and supportive learning environment, stimulating active learning & enquiring minds, promoting responsibility and independence in learning and life. To motivate and inspire all learners and raise attainment and achievement across the curriculum through actively reflecting on and improving our practice producing literate and numerate pupils able to respond confidently, creatively and critically to a changing society. To develop pride in our school and community, promoting equality and fairness for everyone and empowering all to assess risks and take informed decisions. To ensure a robust quality assurance framework is embedded and high quality, focussed professional development enable continuous overall improvement.

Partnerships

We work in partnership with parents, Speech and Language, School Nurse, Social Work, Community Police, Educational Psychologists and other agencies as required to ensure we meet the needs of all our pupils.

Dunnikier School opened in 1893 and has always been known locally as ‘The Red School’. It is of traditional design. The main building accommodates 8 classrooms, a large central hallway used for group and individual work and the administrative offices. The infant building accommodates three classrooms and a dining hall. In 2010 we completed a refurbishment programme and now have 3 additional classrooms, a full size games hall and a 50/50 nursery complete with bespoke outside play area and we are now fully "under one roof".

ACCESSIBILITY

Pupils and adults who have mobility difficulties can access all areas of the school.

School Uniform

There is no doubt that the positive ethos of the school along with the students' attitude to work and to themselves, are reflected in the wearing of the school colours. The uniform also enhances the feeling of "belonging" to the school. Our uniform also increases our security as it makes any visitor to our buildings or grounds easier to identify. We are proud of our school colours, and are sure that the wearing of them adds a sense of pride and of responsibility to the wearer.  A huge thank you to parents and pupils for the standard of school uniform.

Uniform guidance

• Dunnikier navy badged sweatshirt/cardigan (or any other navy cardigan/sweatshirt which may be cheaper)
• Dunnikier white badged polo shirts (or plain white polo shirts which are cheaper)

All pupils should have a white shirt and Dunnikier tie which can be worn for events as requested.

They can can also be worn for daily wear if desired. Daily wearing of the tie is strongly encouraged however not expected.

The sweatshirt and tie are the main identifiers for pupils when they are at events with other pupils from other schools.

• Black or grey trousers/skirts (of a respectable length please!)
• Black shoes (or dark boots in winter)
• Dunnikier badged jacket (optional)
• Navy blue checked dresses or school shorts in summer
• Pinafores grey / black
• Suggested colour of tights-dark eg plain black, grey, blue.

P.E. kit

• T-shirt no football team tops
• Shorts/leggings Suitable safe gym shoes
