Denend Primary School and Nursery

Denend Primary offers a very welcoming and supportive environment. We believe all children should enjoy school, be respected as individuals and be encouraged to actively participate in the life of the school.

We also aim for all our children to believe in themselves as successful learners, aiming high to achieve their goals. We also aim to be kind to ourselves and others to make Denend a happy place to learn, work and visit.

Our staff consists of a Headteacher, Principal Teacher and Class Teachers. We are also supported by a part-time Learning Support Teacher and 7 pupil support staff. Our nursery is staffed by Early Years Officers, an Early Years Lead as well as a part-time Nursery Teacher

Denend Primary School has two buildings. The main school building was opened in 1910 with the adjacent building being added in the 1950s. The main building houses our school classrooms and an assembly room. Our nursery is in our Early years building alongside our gym hall/dining hall and a meeting room.

Nursery children have free access to a newly developed outside area with a large flat area for play as well as a grassy area.

The school playground has a trim trail and climbing equipment as well as a planted area with seating. There is a small car park for staff.

• Morning interval: 10.40am-10:55am
• Lunch: 12.35pm-1.20pm

Nursery - 9.00am-3.00pm

School Uniform

We encourage the wearing of school uniform which consist of:

• Black school trousers (not leggings or jeans) or skirt
• Sky blue shirt or polo shirt
• Navy jumper or cardigan (plain or with school branding – no sports or designer branding please).
• P7 Uniform - special tie for P7 pupils which they can wear with a white shirt, in term 4 they also have the choice to purchase and wear a Leavers hoody.

Children should bring a warm, waterproof jacket suitable for all weathers.

PE – children are asked to change into sports clothing for PE. This consists of black or navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms with a white T-shirt. Children should wear plimsolls or soft soled training shoes for PE. Velcro fastenings are best for younger children to encourage independence.

We also have regular outdoor learning including trips to the forest behind the school. We have some clothing and footwear to offer children including wellies, waterproof trousers and jackets and warm hats, gloves and scarves. Some children prefer to bring their own forest kit to wear.
