Crail Primary School

At Crail Primary School we promote an ethos of achievement and celebrate our children’s success. We have high expectations and these are shared and revised regularly with all of our children. Together children, staff, parents and partner agencies all work extremely hard to make sure that the needs of each individual are supported and met. We believe that the starting point for effective learning is a positive ethos and climate of respect and trust based upon our shared values across our school community. Our school ethos is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and our children have written a Charter which forms the backbone of our vision, values and aims. The Charter is displayed in school and a copy is shared with our families at the stat of each session.

Crail Primary School is over 100 years old and is a single-storey, stone built building. In 2016 our school had an extension fitted to the rear of the school where we have 4 open-plan class areas and a Nursery. A hall serves the dual purpose of Dining Hall/Gym and we also have a library. We have a playground which surrounds the school and we use the local park and MUGA for our outdoor PE sessions.

The School is a co-educational establishment and is non-denominational. All primary stages are catered for, from P1 to P7 and the nursery caters for children from age 3. We generally have composite classes ie a class made up of children from two stages e.g. P1 and P2.

On occasions a year group may need to be split depending on numbers e.g. P4 and P5 and P5 and P6. When this is necessary the criterion used is age as per Fife Council guidance. According to national agreements; the maximum class size is 25.

Daily Timetable

Morning session - 9.00am-12.35pm

Interval - 10.40am-10.55am

Afternoon session - 1.20pm-3.00pm

School Uniform

We encourage all children to wear school uniform as it gives them a sense of belonging. We like children to come to school wearing:

• Navy Blue sweatshirt (available with school logo), jumper or cardigan.
• White polo shirt (available with school logo), blouse or shirt
• Grey, navy or black trousers or skirt (roughly knee length)
• Sensible school shoes (preferably black)
• Blue and white checked school dress (summer months only)
• Grey, navy or black shorts (summer months only)

Gym Kit

For purposes of hygiene and safety, gym shoes, shorts/leggings and a white shirt should be worn. For outdoor PE our children should wear leggings/tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, jumper, jacket and trainers which you do not mind getting dirty.

It is essential that all items of clothing, including footwear, are marked with the child’s name.

We can provide free school meals and a school clothing grant if you are on a low income. The school clothing grant is £120.00 per child for primary school pupils and £150.00 per child for high school pupils.

To qualify for free school meals and a school clothing grant you must be in receipt of one of the following:

• Income Support
• Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based)
• Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related)
• Child Tax Credit only with annual income below £17,005
• Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit with annual income below £7,920
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
• Universal Credit - including those with a take home pay of up to £660 per month
• Long Term Incapacity Benefit  (school clothing grant only)
• Widows Allowance -  if not in full time employment (school clothing grant only)
• Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit with annual income below £17,005 (school clothing grant only)

All children in primary 1-4 can receive a free school meal without an application however, you must still apply to receive free school milk and a school clothing grant. From January 2022 this will be extended to include children in primary 5.
