Commercial Primary School

Our school is a very happy school. We have excellent pupils, parents and staff who are deeply committed to ensuring that each child gets an excellent education. You are very welcome to visit our school as you decide if Commercial is the right school for your child. We believe you 'feel' a school and hope that you get a sense of our happy, positive, supportive, fun but educationally focused learning environment.

Our ethos is very nurturing and supportive, whilst also being ambitious for our youngsters. Pupil progress is rigorously monitored to ensure that no child is left behind. Parents are strongly encouraged to pay an active role in their child's education. This can be through home learning tasks, attending parents evenings and school events, helping out in school, attending our Parent Council meetings - whatever is right for you and your child.

We are a Gold Rights Respecting School and the UNCRC are at the heart of our work in school. ln the early years we have a strong play based curriculum focus

We are also working hard towards Digital Schools Award, Plastic Free Status and have earned the ECO school award.

Our school views itself as an integral part of the community. We have strong links with Woman's Aid, Dunfermline Foodbank, Young Carers, Rag Bag recycling, Sports Relief, Children in Need, Mary's Meals and Comic Relief.

Our school has a very good reputation in the Community. This is developed by our close relationships with local residents, our local community and sporting and cultural organisations. It is our view that pupils should know the community in which they are growing up and as such we involve them in the learning process, where applicable. Much of our work in this area is led by our pupils through class and pupil councils and our Pupil Captaincy Team.

The school is situated at the south eastern side of Dunfermline Public Park sharing a campus with St Margaret's RCPS.

There are currently 13 classrooms over 2 floors. There are 9 classrooms on the upper floor and 4 infant classrooms on the ground floor. Our school is very well equipped with bright, spacious learning spaces, Wi-Fi throughout as well as areas for library, outdoor learning, music and additional accommodation

The school has undergone a considerable upgrade process over the last few years. Access for wheelchairs is to the ground floor only and includes a toilet facility

The grounds are expansive and attractive with an excellent grassy area, a blaze football pitch which is shared with St Margaret's Primary, and a surrounding concreted area. All areas are well used for play and sporting activities. Our quad is home to our school garden and doubles as an outdoor learning area for loose parts play. All classes access Outdoor Learning on a weekly basis. There is also storage for bicycles and scooters. We make very good use of the public park, school wood and nature trail to enhance learning. We are very committed to outdoor learning and pupils work towards Natural Connections and the John Muir Award.

Our policy is for parents to telephone the school to let us know if their child will be absent and a message will be relayed to their class teacher. If we have not received a note or telephone call - for safety reasons - we will telephone parents or send a groupcall message.

School Uniform

Pupils in all Fife Schools have a dress code. The advantages of this are:

• improved security and reduction in peer pressure
• development of a sense of pride
• a positive image in the community and encourage a purposeful attitude
• promotion of positive school ethos and sense of belonging
• raise young people's awareness Of the requirement to dress appropriately for the circumstances and assists parents in terms of economical and practical issues.

Our uniform consists of dark skirt or trousers, shirt/tie and sweatshirt with school logo. Examples of items available in school colours (red and black): sweatshirts, Waterproof fleeces, ties and badges, are available at the office. Please collect an order form from the school office for your requirements.

In accordance with safety regulations PE kit must be worn for gym lessons ie, t-shirt or polo shirt, gym shorts/jogging bottoms and gym shoes. May we also suggest joggers be worn over school clothing for outdoor play at breaktimes with a change of footwear to protect classroom carpets to ensure the longevity of school clothing and shoes.
