At Canmore, we aim to provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences to encourage all children to reach their full potential within a nurturing, stimulating and engaging learning environment.

Following consultation with our school community, our school values have recently been revised and are central to all we do at Canmore.

Canmore is situated within the Pitcorthie housing estate and we benefit from the strong links we have with our local community. Our pupils regularly participate in local sporting events and competitions and take part in the annual Rotary Club Quiz, the annual Rotary Club writing competition and most recently the Rotary Club photography competition. Our school choir performs at a variety of locations including, Dobbies Garden Centre, Sky, the John Marshall Community Centre, The Alhambra Theatre and St Ninian's Church. Representatives from our Junior Leadership Team attend church services such as Remembrance at St Leonard's church.

We value the importance of recognising and celebrating the success and achievements of our children. Pupils' achievements are celebrated at weekly Reconnectors and within class. Parents and families are encouraged to support the celebration of wider achievements.

We work effectively with a number of partner agencies to best meet the needs of all our pupils, i.e. Psychological Services, Health Services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Social Services.

Canmore Primary School was built in 1975 and is of open-plan design. It is a single-storey building with three main teaching areas. Primaries 1 – 3 are accommodated in one large open-plan area, Primaries 4 –6 in a second open-plan area and Primary 7 pupils have the experience of a traditional classroom with an adjoining general-purpose area. This serves as a transition to a classroom situation that the children will encounter in secondary school. Our nurture provision, TV rooms, music rooms and libraries make up the remainder of the accommodation.

We have a large school hall which accommodates Reconnectors, P.E. and drama activities and also serves as a lunch hall. There is an ICT Suite which all classes can access in order to extend learning in a variety of curricular areas as well as develop Digital Literacy skills.

Pupils and adults who have mobility difficulties can access the school hall by means of a ramp from the car park at the rear of the school. There is limited access to teaching and administrative areas.

The school has two hard-surface playgrounds and a large playing field incorporating a Trim Trail, an outdoor classroom and a stage area. An area has also recently been developed to house approximately 24-cycle stands for use by pupils and staff.

School Uniform

Pupils in all Fife schools have a dress code. This supports:

• the promotion of a positive school ethos and a sense of belonging

• a raised awareness of the requirements to dress appropriately for the circumstances

Our school uniform was reviewed in session 2019/20 following full consultation with all members of our school community.

Parents/carers can purchase Canmore branded school wear through www.border-embroideries.co.uk. In addition ties, badges and T-shirts are available from the school office.

Our current dress code consists of the following:

• Grey/black/bottle green jersey/cardigan/sweatshirt
• White blouse/shirt, school tie
• Grey/black skirt/trousers/pinafore
• Green-checked summer dress
• Appropriate dark-coloured footwear (shoes or smart trainers with no embellishments)
• INDOOR PE KIT - black/bottle green shorts, white t-shirt, indoor gym shoes
• OUTDOOR PE KIT - black/bottle green jogging bottoms, plain t-shirt, sweatshirt, outdoor training shoes. Please note no football colours/strips are to be worn.

It would be most helpful if each article of clothing could be clearly marked with your child's name and both indoor and outdoor PE kits available in school from Monday and taken home at the weekend for washing.
