In Burntisland Primary School we aspire to achieve the highest quality learning and teaching to ensure all learners achieve their full potential. We want all our pupils to feel nurtured, safe, happy, health, included, respected and responsible and we will achieve this through fostering excellent relationships between, staff, pupils and parents.

All about our school

Our school building opened in August 2014, previously we occupied five buildings on an adjacent site which dated back to 1876. We now have our large nursery of 160 children and twenty classes from P1-7 all under one roof. We have an additional nursery building across the road which was built in 2000 and houses our provision for under three-year-olds.

Our school building is arranged in three wings where pupil classrooms and the nursery are located. These are the East, West and the North Wing with the central Hub area accommodating offices, medical room, our library, PE halls, four changing rooms, assembly hall, general purpose room and a meeting room. We have a music room, support for learning base, additional withdrawal and tutorial rooms as well as a Teacher Learning Base. Currently we have twenty classes, but have accommodation for up to twenty three classes if the school roll was to rise in future years.

The school is fully accessible and has two lifts, hearing loops and a hoist room catering for potential additional support needs of all pupils, parents and staff alike.

We have a fully operational lending library using a bar coding system as well as state-of-the art technology in every classroom. Our hall boasts a fully equipped lighting rig and sound system with a large portable stage to allow for shows, dramatic performances and other special events.

The playground is mainly tarmac but we do have a trim trail, an agility cube and an attractive nursery garden area, accessible also to primary 1 pupils. We have a large sports field for use in the better weather and a garden area which the pupils develop themselves. We encourage walking, cycling and scootering to school and have ample bike sheds to accommodate any bikes or scooters the children or staff might bring.

• School day; 9.00am -3.00pm
• Morning interval; 10.40am-10.55am
• Lunch break; 12.35pm- 1.20pm

Nursery

We operate two models. The 3 – 5 year Nursery situated in the main school building is Model 1 which operates during term time.

Session Monday - Friday 9 am – 3 pm

Under 3s Nursery and 3 -5 Nursery

This building is situated across the road in the "Bungalow" and has the capacity for children in both rooms. They offer Model 2 which has provision for 49 weeks a year.

Session Monday – Friday 8 am – 12.40pm or 1.20 - 6pm

School Uniform

We believe that the wearing of uniform has a positive effect on children's attitude and behaviour and we expect all children to wear it every day. We are delighted that almost all children do.

Our school colour is red. The school uniform is a red sweatshirt, with white shirt and tie or polo shirt. The school polo shirts are white or red.

This is worn with grey or navy trousers/skirt. Navy, red or grey sweaters/cardigans are also permitted. Blue summer dresses are also acceptable, and school jackets are available in navy. School uniform is on sale from the BE Schoolwear Shop, High Street, Kirkcaldy.

Wearing a school tie or a badged sweatshirt is very much appreciated especially when the children are out and about as this identifies them clearly as BPS pupils when mixing with others.
