We have many meaningful links with our local community - Aberdour Festival; Village in Bloom; Our local Churches; The Marine Conservation Society; Aberdour Cultural Association; The Village News; Tennis, Gymnastics, Football, Shinty and Golf Clubs.

Location & Catchment Area

The school is situated in the historical village of Aberdour with a population of around 1600.  The children come from Aberdour village and surrounding farms and cottages in the area. Approx 10 children bus to school. A number of children attend Aberdour by parental choice. The housing is mainly private, with a few council owned homes. Privately rented accommodation has increased in recent years. There is very little employment in the village, but its location allows for easy commuting to Edinburgh, Dunfermline and surrounding areas. Accommodation

The school opened in 1967. It is a two-storey building comprising: In the entrance area there is a Janitor's room, Learning Base, staffroom, the school office and Headteacher's office. There are several large cupboards in this area as well as to the rear of the gym hall. In the early years wing, there is one Nursery classroom and a Primary 1 class. There are boys and girls toilets and a shared cloakroom area.

Downstairs - three classrooms, a communal working area, boys and girls toilets and two shared cloakrooms and a generous gym hall with a stage. The hall is used for school meals, gym and drama.

Upstairs - there are three classrooms, a communal working area, a music room, boys and girls toilets.

Outdoor facilities

The school has two hard surfaces to the side of the school. There is a large grassed area to the rear. There is a large Trim Trail and other permanent structures on the grass area, as well as some picnic benches. A wildlife garden has been developed. There is an outdoor play area for Nursery. To the front of the school there is a small attractive garden leading to the main door. There is space for staff parking and a disabled space, along with ramped access to the school building.

P1 - P7 1.20pm - 3.00pm

Nursery Full days - 9am - 3pm

School Uniform

Aberdour Primary actively promotes the wearing of school uniform, which has been chosen in
consultation with pupils and parents. The Parent Council led the last consultation session
2015-16. The agreed School Uniform items are:

• White/navy polo shirt
• White Shirt/Blouse
• Navy Blue trousers
• Navy Blue skirt/pinafore
• Red sweatshirt / cardigan
• Black school shoes or Black trainers for outdoor footwear
• School Tie on occasions such as photographs (Most pupils wear school tie)

Note - in the summer months girls have the option of navy or red gingham dresses. We operate an outdoor /indoor shoe system to allow children to access the grass areas at break times.

School clothing grant

We can provide free school meals and a school clothing grant of £100,00 per child if you are
on a low income.

To qualify for free schools meals and school clothing grant you must be in receipt of one of
the following:

• Income Support
• Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based)
• Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related)
• Child Tax Credit only with annual income below £16,105
• Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit with annual income below £6420
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
• Universal Credit including those with a take home of pay of up to £610 per month
• Long Term Incapacity Benefit (school clothing grant only)
• Widows Allowance if not in full time employment (school clothing grant only)
• Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit with annual income below £69,00 (school clothing grant only)

If you don't meet these criteria, but your child is in P1-3, they can still receive free school meals.

Free school milk will only be given if the above criteria are met.
