Letham Glen (referred to as “the Glen”) lies to the north east corner of the town of Leven, at the beginning of the coastal tourist route between Leven and Lundin Links. It’s located just off the A915 at the Scoonie roundabout which directs visitors to the town of Leven or, along the East Fife Tourist Trail.

The Glen, which is currently in the ownership of Fife Council, is maintained by Fife Council’s Park’s Street and Open Spaces service. It is relatively compact, extending only to some 8 hectares, and offers visitors a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of traffic and urban noise. Below, you can see some photos from Letham Glen:

At the main Southern entrance, the Glen is entered via the main gates whose structure is “Listed”.  A toilet facility stands adjacent to the gates.

The entrance driveway leads you into the Glen past a stand of cherry trees on the left, with Spring/Summer bedding plants grouped around. To the right, past the toilet, a bridge over the “burn” gives access to the only public car parking area.

Progressing further into the Glen, to the left, stands the “Sunken Garden” along with a flat, open expanse of grass which houses a recently installed new play park, and an adult fitness area.  On the right, the Scoonie burn meanders down to the Forth Estuary.

Further on, you reach the Craft Centre building and the disused wishing well and, here, there is an additional area for authorised parking. From this point, you pass both the stone “Doocot” (that we’re looking to upgrade to Fife’s first Bat House) and the pond area, and you then enter the start of the woodland walk which offers a circular walk of approximately 30 minutes. This goes through a peaceful woodland valley setting, giving a gentle climb, high above the burn leading to the northern end of the Glen. The path then crosses the most northern bridge and then returns along the eastern side of the burn, back towards the Craft Centre. There are several bridges at various locations along the length of the Scoonie Burn, offering shorter walking routes, if desired.
