A Dunfermline Learning Campus in the east of the town, which would incorporate a new Woodmill High School, a new St Columba’s RC High School and new Fife College (Dunfermline Campus) buildings, is one step closer to becoming a reality.
An educational consultation has been carried out on a proposal to bring the two schools together on one campus and has now been approved by committee.
Councillor Craig Walker, Convenor of the Education and Children’s Services Sub-Committee welcomed the decision saying: “This is good news for the schools involved, good news for the college and good news for Dunfermline. It takes us a step closer to having this proposal become a reality.
“The consultation has shown that the majority of children and young people are keen to have a learning campus, with the proposed new facilities which can be offered there, together with the opportunities to meet with old and new friends. The pupils are looking forward to a modern building and the new facilities that they’ll have access to.
“The close links with the college will provide them with a senior educational experience that is quite unique and will benefit both the pupils and Fife as a whole.”
Relocation to a single site can bring positive aspects and benefits for all pupils and community users. The new campus will be purpose built to accommodate all building users and be fully accessible for all pupils, parents, staff and community users.
The proposed new campus, located on the same site as Fife College, will help strengthen the well-established links with the college and collaborative working. The facilities on offer in the schools’ campus will be available for all community users to experience.
Education Scotland confirmed in the report that Fife Council had set out a strong case in support of the proposal. They said it was of clear educational benefit, the majority of respondents supported it, and all the children, young people, parents, carers and school staff who met with HM Inspectors were supportive of the proposal.
It is hoped the campus will be complete by Autumn 2024
