As hosting a major sporting event will inevitably mean greater traffic in the local area, a multi-agency Traffic and Transport group regularly meets to discuss planning and is committed to minimising disruption to local businesses and residents. Some of the areas that have been reviewed to assist this are as follows:
Spectator parking will be available free of charge and located on the Balgove course, a short walking distance from the championship’s main entrance. Spectators will be directed to here by AA road signage and access will only be available from the A91.
Parking restrictions on the main routes to and from the course will be in place to support traffic flow and prevent on-street parking by spectators.
Police Scotland will deploy traffic officers to direct traffic at key junctions.

ScotRail provides train services from destinations across Scotland to Leuchars – the nearest station to St Andrews.
Spectators can take advantage of a special ‘rail and bus’ GolfLink ticket for travel to the Championship between Wednesday 21 and Sunday 25 August.
The two-in-one GolfLink ticket includes return rail travel to Leuchars as well as Stagecoach bus transport to and from the course.

In an effort to minimise the number of coaches in the town centre during the AIG Women’s Open, a coach passenger drop off/pick up point has been established within the main public parking area on the Balgove course. AA event signage will direct coaches to this location.
Some roads in the vicinity of the golf course will be closed or restricted to one-way traffic in order to improve traffic flow around the venue. These restrictions will be enforced by Police Scotland.
In addition, key routes will be subject to no parking and no-waiting restrictions to keep traffic moving. These restrictions will be enforced by Fife Council.
Access passes will be made available for residents and businesses affected by the road access restrictions. Access for business customers will be maintained.
A few of the key temporary restrictions in place from Sunday 18 – Monday 26 August 2024 have been provided below:
