The Big Stooshie - Scotland's Charity Festival

A flypast from a Typhoon aircraft of 6 Squadron based at RAF Leuchars is set to get Fife’s new charity music festival, The Big Stooshie, off to a flying start on Friday 4 May. Event organisers aim to raise £100,000 for Help 4 Heroes (H4H) and SSAFA Forces Help.

Air Officer Scotland and Station Commander RAF Leuchars, Air Commodore Gavin Parker said:

“We have SSAFA personnel working here at RAF Leuchars providing invaluable support to our people and their families and it is only right that we give our backing to events raising money for charities like SSAFA and H4H that do so much to help personnel from the RAF and our sister Services.

“Because the Big Stooshie is taking place here in Fife, a Typhoon aircraft will be able to pay the Festival goers a flying visit as part of 6 Squadron’s training programme and get the event off to a suitably military start. RAF Leuchars has very close links with the local community and we know how much effort goes into organising these events from putting on our Air Show every September. We will be delighted to play a part in the festivities.”

Jim Russell of the Big Stooshie, said:

“This is a Scottish Event raising money to support Scottish service personnel. The money raised for H4H we have requested is donated to the Personal Recovery Centre in Edinburgh.”

Major Tim Grantham, the Volunteer County Coordinator Fife & Clackmannanshire Help for Heroes, was delighted RAF Leuchars have embraced The Big Stooshie and said:

“We are so grateful to all at RAF Leuchars for their continuing support for the Charity. The Big Stooshie is the largest charity music event to take place in Scotland this year which is tremendous news for all the injured members of our Armed Forces. Receiving the endorsement from RAF Leuchars is a massive bonus to us all.”

Major General Andrew Cumming, Chief Executive of SSAFA Forces Help said:

"Everyone at SSAFA is really excited about the Big Stooshie. It looks like a great event and we are very grateful to be one of the two charities that will benefit from it. The work of SSAFA is vitally important and the Fife Branch of SSAFA is one of the busiest in the country, helping over 475 families last year and over 200 already this year. In addition, at RAF Leuchars our volunteers are always on hand to support the serving community there. The money raised from the Big Stooshie will help us to continue to give practical help and support to those who have served, are currently serving and their families."
