This summer, we’re investing £1million improving the road network in Dunfermline.
The project will focus on Carnegie Drive Dunfermline to Crossford and will include upgrading road surfaces and street lighting, improving drainage, enhancing pedestrian safety and carrying out structural bridge repairs.
Works will start on Saturday 4 July and last for 9 weeks - depending on the weather.
Newlay Civil Engineering has been appointed to carry out these works.
Location
Works will take place from A907 Carnegie Drive in Dunfermline along the A994 to Crossford. As this is a key route into Dunfermline and west Fife, the roadworks are likely to slow traffic and cause delays. The programme has been planned for the summer to help reduce disruption as much as possible, but it will have an impact on residents and road users.
To help keep traffic moving, we’ll use a mix of road and lane closures, suspending residents parking, manually controlled traffic signals and temporary traffic lights.

Update - Friday 17 July 2026
On Sunday 19 July, Chapel Street will be closed while resurfacing work is carried out at the junction.
From Monday 20 July, traffic management on Pittencrieff Street will remain in place and Bridge Street will be closed to allow resurfacing work.

Bus Services
Some bus services will be affected by the roadworks. Express buses will divert via A907.
To help maintain access to public transport for local communities, a temporary Go Flexi service will operate within Crossford. This service is intended for passengers who would normally use Stagecoach services 89 and 89A, allowing them to connect with the wider bus network during the works. Passengers should book journeys in advance by calling the Go Flexi booking line on 01382 540624.
In addition, a free evening shuttle bus will operate while Urquhart Cut is closed. The shuttle will run between:

The service will operate each evening from 9pm until 12.30am, following the timetable of the Stagecoach 8A service. An additional journey will depart at 12.08am to connect with the final X24 service from Glasgow.

To complete the Dunfermline roadworks as efficiently as possible, the contractor will be working at several locations at the same time.
This approach helps make best use of resources, reduces downtime between stages of work, and shortens the overall programme.
